Your website’s getting hits but no-one’s booking a consultation call. You’re getting likes and views on instagram but when you mention your offer… crickets.
It’s frustrating, isn’t it?
What you need is a reliable place to build trust and convert followers into fans. This is to lead them to becoming your clients.
Where is this place?
Their inbox.
Email marketing is a powerful tool that can help you grow your coaching business. In this article, we will discuss the benefits for coaches of having an email list and how to create one for your business.
What is an email list? and Why do you need one?
Your mailing list is a database of people interested in you, your business, and your services. It’s one of the most valuable parts of your coaching business as it gives you a direct way to communicate with your potential clients.
What about social media?
You probably have a following on social media. The thing is, these platforms decide how much of your content to show to your followers. You’re at the mercy of ever-changing algorithms. With your own email list, the changes Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest algorithms will not affect your communication – you can still reliably reach your coaching audience as needed.
By building your mailing list and communicating clearly and regularly with the contacts you already have on your list, you can connect with the right people and turn them into long-term, loyal fans and paying customers.
Email marketing is one of the BEST ways to turn curious browsers or followers into curious new potential clients.
How coaches can use their mailing lists
You’re a business owner who wants to help people. Help people change their lives for the better. You can achieve this with a healthy email list that you use to serve people well.
Educate your readers
In these educational emails, you can share tips, lessons you and your clients have learnt and all the details of your approach, build a relationship with potential clients and gain their trust so they’re ready to work with you.
Let them know about your offers
Once you have positioned yourself as a trusted expert with case studies and valuable emails can you start sending emails about your services and products.
Email newsletters can help your audience learn about your latest blog posts, exclusive offers, upcoming events or webinars and more. When a 1:1 spot opens up on your calendar, you have a database of warm leads who may be interested.
You can leverage this by selling online courses, promoting other products through affiliate marketing, and more while continuing to generate leads for your coaching business.
Segment and personalise your emails
You can segment and then personalise your emails, ensuring coaching clients only receive information that is relevant and interesting to them. In your emails, you’ll deliver meaningful content that sounds like you, not some weird marketing bot.
Summary
A great email marketing strategy will earn you loyal fans who can’t wait to read/watch through everything you do, including one-on-one online workshops or programs. When you use email consistently and strategically as part of your marketing plan, your business can reach its full potential.
How to create an email list for your coaching business
Step 1: Choose an Email Marketing Provider
There are a few things to consider when choosing an email marketing provider.
The first is the price and features. Some providers offer free plans for small lists, while others have more expensive plans but offer more features.
The second consideration is the type of services offered. Some providers offer only email marketing, while others also client management.
The options can be overwhelming, though it’s useful to bear in mind that you’re not locked in for life. You can always change providers later to better suit your needs and budget.
Personally I’ve recently moved to MailerLite* which is easy to use and great for small lists. Unlike MailChimp and ConvertKit, automations are included on the free plan and the paid plans are also very affordable.
Step 2: Add sign-up forms on your website and social media pages
Once you’ve set up your list, you need to tell people about it.
If you have a website, there are so many places you can easily add a sign-up link to get those interested visitors onto your list. As a bare minimum, there should be at least 3-4 places on your site where people can join your list, such as:
- your home page
- your contact page
- your about page
- your footer or sidebar
- at the end of every blog post
- embedded part-way through a blog post
You should also promote your list on social media. Add a link to sign-up in your bio or linktree. Add a field to your facebook group joining form. Put a sign-up link in your youtube video description.
Get creative and get your sign-up link out there.
You can also use these sign-up forms to collect information about your clients, such as their name and type of coaching they are interested in. This information can help you better serve your clients and improve your business overall.
Step 3: Encourage people to join
Some people who enjoy your content will be happy to join your list straight off the bat. I built a list of 200 subscribers at my Vietnamese blog this way. Other people may need a little more incentive like a freebie to encourage them to join. A freebie is a nice-to-have but you can get started building your list without one.
Yes, you would really benefit from having an email list for your coaching business
Having an email list is important for any coach or business owner who wants to grow their business. By creating an email list with qualified leads, you can reach out to your most important audience, gain their trust, serve more people and increase your profits.
